My First Piece...

I got my first piece of metal recently. I have no idea what kind of metal it is, but I am anxious to find out. Below are some pictures of what it looks like and I am planning to have you follow this piece from start to finish.

This piece is rather big. It is the size of an adult women’s shoe. What do you think I should turn this into? I could make a pretty mean axe out of it. I am going to talk with Gary (one of the instructors at Blandford Nature Center) and get his opinion. He specializes in knives so maybe I could make a small sword.
